But, Let’s get into it. You are here for actionationale ways to use things like candles and oils to help you alleviate the depression or anxiety you are feeling. Well here are 4 ways you can use aromatherapy to help create a more positive reality for you!
Fighting Anxiety
Hi Everyone, let's talk about how to fight those anxious feelings when they creep in and start to overwhelm you and make you feel powerless. So let's get into it!
Grab a scented oil that is designed to calm you down (I use this one)
Sit in a comfortable position
Close your eyes and take a slow deep breath
Focus on this reality. You can only control what you can control. Everything else is out of your control.
Look at what is causing your anxiety and ask yourself, what is actually within your control? And What is not within your control?
As you breathe out, let the things you can’t control flow out with your breath.
And reassure yourself that you are safe and you can handle whatever is happening around you.
When you are ready, come out :)
Feelings of Overwhelm
For me, this is a huge problem and something I suffer with a lot, with technology advancing and being available all day, every day and having to do everything and be perfect while you are at it, it all gets too much. So I am going to run you through a process that I do to help me feel more grounded. So let's get into it!
Find a quiet place away from people
Grab a candle that smells amazing to you (I use this one)
Light it and sit in a comfortable position
Close your eyes and take a slow deep breath
Now breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and breathe out for 4 seconds.
Just let your mind slow down, let the noise just clatter around and take a step back in your mind. Watch the noise from afar.
Now focus on a ball of light, it will appear in whatever form your brain desires to see. No judgement if the noises get louder or quieter, just focus on the ball of light and let everything else float away.
When you feel relaxed and calm, softly open your eyes and return to the world.
Negative mindset
I am all about helping you clear the negativity out of your mind so you can have a much nicer day. Although biologically, we are wired to be negative and it's natural, it's just our brain protecting us from danger. It's just in overlord and it sees danger where it doesn’t have to so sometimes, we just need to tell our brains to chill out. So this is what I do on a regular basis, I recommend doing this once a day but it can be really powerful if you are in a negative headspace. For me I sit and obsess over things and run things around over and over in my head. I mean if you are sad about something, sit and feel your feelings but if you are just grumbling around, this is for you. Lets go.
Find a quiet space where no one is around and leave your phone in another room.
Light a candle
Stop for a moment and just sit with the scent and take deep breaths. Appreciating the beautiful aromas.
Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and breathe out for 4 seconds.
In your head, name three things you are grateful for. This is essential, gratitude helps supercharge a mood change.
Stay in this moment for as long as you feel like you need too. Let the good memories flow.
Overcome Body Issues
Let’s talk about helping you to overcome your body issues. Repairing the relationship with your body is hard work and it takes a while, it is a rollercoaster but here is something you can do to reconnect with your body. If you follow me, you will know that this is something I am incredibly passionate about, I believe all people no matter what size, ethnicity, age or gender or ability should love their body. So this is something I do when my relationship with my body is feeling quite low.
Make time to commit to doing this, put it in your bathroom routine
Pick a scent that you love, that makes you think of beauty and light. One that reminds you of yourself, good times or love. Get it in the form of a body oil or a moisturizer. (I use this one)
When you get out of the shower, moisturise parts of your body, rehydrate your neglected skin.
Focus on what your body does for you, how it walks you places, how blessed you are that you have all of your limbs, or remaining limbs. Focus on how it keeps you healthy, warns you of danger, catches you when you fall.
Your body is always there for you and it is just a body, it is not a reflection of yourself. Not everyone will understand this but this is your body, it's the only one you have so treat it like you would treat your children, your best friend or your doggo.
Say thank you to your body for all the beautiful things it does for you, touches, tastes, sees, moves, dances. Like you, it deserves to be appreciated.
While focusing on the good and saying thank you, rub in the body oil and let those positive calming aromas really sink into your skin along with your words that your body is valued and important. It matters. Like you do.
I really hope these help you reconnect with your happier self, you are beautiful, wonderful and amazing, you deserve happiness. One final thing I want to highlight is that aromatherapy can be so great to assist with a plan to alleviate mental health issues, it is not the all in one cure. This is a great addition to an overall plan but one I have definitely fallen in love with.
